Car accidents can put a person in shock.  Do you know what to do after an accident?  Being prepared can help you stay calm in an emergency.  Following these steps can make the claims process simple and help you get the money you deserve.

Steps to Take After an Accident:

·        Check for Injury – The first thing you should do following an auto accident is see if anyone in your vehicle or the other vehicle needs medical assistance.
·        Move to the Side – If your vehicles are blocking the road, move them to the side to a safe position.
·        Call 911 – Call the police to file an accident report.
·        Exchange Information – Get the insurance information and drivers’ license numbers of the other drivers involved in the auto accident.
·        Document – Take pictures with a camera or cell phone of your vehicle damage, the scene of the accident, and any injuries.

If you have recently been in an auto accident, the first thing you should do is get the medical care you need.  Notify your auto insurance provider, get a copy of the police report, and have your claim reviewed by a personal injury lawyer.  This will make sure that you are being treated fairly by your insurance company!

Cruise Ship Accidents: Slip & Fall Injury

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530

Injuries can happen even when we are on vacation.  Slip and falls are common among those embarking on cruises to the Caribbean during the summer months.  What many people don’t realize is that cruise liner accident cases are handled in a different manner than other personal injury cases.

Onboard slip and falls can happen when embarking or disembarking on the gangplank, around the swimming pool, and around other dangerous conditions.  In many cases, the passenger will be able to hold the ship responsible and receive compensation.  However, International and national cruise liners have passengers sign an agreement to have their case heard in a court of the ship’s choosing before boarding.  However, this does not necessarily mean that you need to travel to Florida to have your case heard.  The boating accident attorneys at the Law offices of Louis D. Stober, Jr., L.L.C. can serve as your local counsel, working in association with an attorney in Florida.

If you suffered an injury aboard a cruise ship, contact the Law Offices of Louis D. Have you been involved in a transit accident?

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530
877-791-8076 / StoberLaw.com

Many Long Island residents rely heavily on the train, subway and bus systems (public transit) that serve more than 7 million people every day. Public transit vehicles are expected to meet a higher standard for safety than private motorist companies. They must take extra measures to avoid accidents and prevent injuries to passengers, employees, motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists.

Personal injury attorneys at our Nassau County firm represent transit employees, passengers, and others injured in accidents, helping them recover full and fair compensation for their losses. If you would like to speak with one of our lawyers about an injury claim, please contact our Garden City office and arrange a free consultation and case evaluation. Our attorneys will evaluate and examine evidence, witness statements, and transit authority reports regarding the train or bus accident to classify factors that caused the injury.

Our attorneys will consider the following
  • Driver negligence, speeding, illegal log book, maintaining false driving records, drunk driving
  • Transit company negligence in training and supervision of employees
  • Failure of the transit company to maintain tracks and equipment in a safe manner
  • Failure to adhere to municipal, state, and federal safety regulations designed to protect passengers, operators, and track workers
  • Failure to note and repair known hazards and failure to set up warning lanterns

If you or someone you know has been involved in a transit accident, please contact the Law Offices of Louis D. Stober, Jr., L.L.C. today.

Back to School Safety Tips!

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530
877-791-8076 / StoberLaw.com

It’s back to school time for most children and sometimes unfortunate events occur. Accidents on school grounds happen, but there are step that can be taken by you, the parents or guardians, that can help prevent accidents from happening.

Some tips to help prevent accidents from occurring include:

  • Talking to your children’s teachers and school staff about supervision
  • Checking the school grounds yourself to make sure it is safe and setting boundaries for your children if need be.
  • Know your children’s schedule; when they will be home, after school activities, etc.Know who they will be with, when they will be coming home, or if there will be adult supervision
  • Attend PTA meetings. Voice your concerns and work to keep the school ground safe if there is an issue.
  • Speak to your children. It sounds simple, but if you know what is going on in their everyday life; who their friends are, what activities they do after school, etc. you will have a better understanding what boundaries you can set to keep them safe.
Accidents on School Grounds are an unfortunate event, but some research into your child’s school life can help prevent an injury from happening.

Know that, if your child was injured on school grounds in the Nassau/Suffolk area, we can help. ACT QUICKLY and Speak with one of our lawyers at the Law Offices of Louis D. Stober, Jr., L.L.C. or call 877-881-7185 to arrange a free consultation. We can help you identify your situation and provide guidance on the issue.

Garden City is Enforcing Traffic Safety in School Zones!

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530
877-791-8076 / StoberLaw.com

With school back in session, there is no better time for a reminder on safety in school zones. The Village of Garden City is one of many villages that want to enforce safety in effort to keep their children safe and accident incidents low.

One area in Garden City that residents worry about is the intersection of Merillon Avenue and Rockaway Avenue. Recently, the Traffic Commission decided to suggest to the Garden City Board of Trustees to direct the Garden City Police Department to increase police enforcement of the speed limit, which is normally 30 but 20 mph when school is in session. They also recommended that blinking lights be installed to draw attention to the speed limit sign.

Residents of Garden City signed a peti- tion that was submitted to Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano, Nassau County Commissioner of Public Works Shila Shah-Gavnoudias, P.E., along with various officials in the Village of Garden City and the Garden City School District.

Residents asked that one of the following remedies be applied near the east entrances to Garden City High School on Rockaway Avenue: a crosswalk, a stop sign or other prominent caution sign(s), a no parking sign on the east side of Rockaway across from the school, and enhanced police enforcement. (www.gcnews.com)

Garden City Police will be strictly enforcing the speed limit in this area, especially during school hours. Please be careful on the road and join in the effort to help keep Garden City accident free! Let us know what you think about this intersection on our Facebook page, linked HERE

Many Passengers Joining in the Lawsuit Regarding JetBlue Pilots Meltdown!

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530
877-791-8076 / StoberLaw.com

Earlier this year, passengers on JetBlue Airways Flight 191 from Kennedy Airport en route to Las Vegas had no idea what they would be in for when they boarding that morning.

Pilot, Captain Clayton Osbon, had a meltdown midair resulting in an emergency landing in Texas. Osbon apparently missed a meeting with his crew members before taking off and began acting very strange when the plane left New York.

Out of the135 passengers on board that day, 32 of them have joined in a lawsuit against the airline over the pilot’s meltdown. Several of the 32 plaintiffs who are involved are from Long Island. Many of these individuals are arguing that medical screenings need to include mental health, along with physical.

Michael Bedzinger, a passenger on that day’s flight stated “JetBlue should have been able to know that this guy [the pilot] was not stable enough to be flying that plane.”

Osbon was seen by a federal court judge in July who ruled that Osbon was not guilty by reason of insanity. He remains in custody until his second hearing, which is scheduled for October.

Will Armstrong's Titles be Taken Away?

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530
877-791-8076 / StoberLaw.com

Lance Armstrong made the decision to not fight the charges by the United States Anti-Doping Agency that he used performance enhancing drugs. The decision made by Armstrong has caused much speculation and could result in him being stripped of his seven Tour de France titles.

Armstrong’s titles could be taken away as soon as Friday and he could also be given a lifetime ban. However, he is retired and will be turning 41 next month. The International Cycling Unit said the USADA has no choice but to strip the titles from Armstrong under code.

Other reports indicate that Armstrong was aware that his legacy could be destroyed by this decision; however, he reported that he is tired of defending himself in the never ending fight against doping charges.

The USA women’s soccer team had much to celebrate last night at Wembley Stadium. The USA squad defeated Japan last night in a thrilling 2-1 victory! USA’s Carli Lloyd lead the team to gold by scoring not one, but BOTH of the two goals for the Americans!

USA took an early 2-0 lead over Japan. Lloyd’s first goal was set up by Alex Morgan, another key player on the squad. Her second goal was achieved by dribbling quickly down the field and firing the ball 20 yards out from the goal and past Japan’s goalkeeper Fukumoto. Lloyd commented on her second goal stating that dribbling down the field and firing from far out is what she does best.

Over 80,000 people flooded Wembley Stadium to catch the action between Japan and the United States. This was the largest crowd to ever attend a women’s game outside of North America!

Congratulations to all of the USA athletes! Did you happen to see the game? Let us know what you thought on our Facebook page, linked HERE
