President Obama recently made an announce suggesting that law schools consider cutting back on a year of education. This would mean law school would be completed in two years, rather than three.

According to the New York Times, President Obama stated at his speech given at Binghamton University, “I believe that law schools would probably be wise to think about being two years instead of three years.”

President Obama believes that the third year of law school should be done outside the classroom and suggested students use the final two semesters to gain experience in a work environment.

What are your thoughts on law schools cutting back on a year in the classroom? We want to know. Let us know your thoughts on our Facebook page.

Developer Chosen to Renovate Nassau Coliseum

Edward Mangano, the Nassau County Executive, has chosen his candidate to renovate Nassau Coliseum. Bruce Ratner has been chosen for the job, in a deal what could possibly transform the 77-acre property in the middle of the county and provides Nassau with millions of dollars a year in new revenue.

Forrest City Ratner’s group, the developer behind the Barclays center, submitted a proposal that could be worth up to 229 million dollars. The new renovations would include a 13,000-seat arena, an outdoors amphitheater, multiple restaurants, an ice-skating rink and a bowling alley or movie theater.

One of the deciding factors on choosing Ratner’s group was that NEC’s plan will pay about $4.4 million in rent next year, which was substantially higher than MSG’s proposal. Mangano stated that over the 34-year lease span, Nassau County has the potential to make up to $334 million.

Stop-and-Frisk Ruled Unconstitutional by New York Judge

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530

Earlier this week, Federal Judge, Shira A. Scheindlin ruled New York Police Department’s stop-and-frisk tactics violated minorities’ constitutional rights.

Stop-and-frisk is designed to allow police officers to frisk suspicious people. This tactic was enacted in order to counter terrorism within the city. Now Judge Scheindlin tells New York Times it is a “policy of indirect racial profiling.” Scheindlin also states police are targeting black and Hispanic men who made up 83% of the people who were stopped.

While Judge Scheindlin says the tactic has turned to racial profiling, Mayor Michael Bloomberg continues to defend stop-and-frisk. New York Times reports Mayor Bloomberg claims the city was not given a fair trial and would appeal. He also states he does not want to be responsible for any deaths if the appeal does not go through.

Judge Scheindlin offered alternative tactics other than stop-and-frisk. Scheindlin suggests having police officers wear cameras located somewhere on their uniform to monitor any encounters with a civilian and police officer. Further, the judge ordered a “joint remedial process,” this allows communities to suggest better tactics to keep NYC safe.

On Sunday morning, a body was pulled from the Atlantic Ocean. A boater, who contacted authorities around 11:30 a.m., found Ninive Petrocelli, 40 years old.

Ninive’s husband, John Petrocelli, who is the president and founder of Petrocelli Construction Corp. was on the boat with her and reported her missing Saturday night around midnight. Ninive was reported missing in Block Island Sound, which is about 2 ½ miles off Montauk Point.

Petrocelli’s body was found about 3 nautical miles south of Montauk Point, and 5 nautical miles from where she was reported missing from. Erik Swanson, the Coast Guard spokesman, said she fell off the stern of the boat. Records show the boat is a 1999 46 1/2 –foot Carver Yacht, who was owned by Frank Monte, the chief financial officer and general manager of the Petrocelli Company.

Swanson claims Ninive Petrocelli was not wearing a life jacket. The Suffolk County Medical Examiners Office will continue to figure out the cause of the death.

School bus driver Michael Asseng, plans to sue Nassau County and police for $10 million over his DWI arrest after he struck a parked vehicle while transporting children to school.

Asseng, 28, claims that he was not intoxicated when the vehicle was hit in January, but sick. Immediately after the accident, Asseng was brought to the precinct. A week after the sideswiping incident, Asseng was brought to the hospital with a near fatal case of blood poisoning. According to the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, the charges have been dropped.

Asseng reported to Newsday, “I sat in the hospital in tears, worried about going to jail over something I know I didn't do. I think what that police officer did was unacceptable, delaying my medical care. Taking me to that precinct put my life in danger.”

Alex Rodriguez to Appeal Suspension

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530

NY Yankee all-star player, Alex Rodriguez is being suspended for a doping violation.

The ban began on Thursday, and league officials have charged him with a whopping 211 game suspension. This suspension lasts all the way through the 2014 season. Michael Weiner, the executive director of the players union tells the New York Times the suspension is “way too harsh.”

Rodriguez is banned along fellow teammate Francisco Cervelli, Texas Rangers’ Nelson Cruz, San Diego Padres player Everth Cabrera and the Detroit Tigers’ Jhonny Peralta.

However, Rodriguez is the only one to appeal for the suspension. The appeal process allows A-Rod to play for the remaining 2013 season, but with a heavy burden of a ban.

Rodriguez and the other banned players seemed to have been patients of Anthony P. Bosch who ran an anti-aging clinic in South Florida called Biogenesis of America. Last month two players were suspended from the MLB due to using banned drugs aided by Biogenesis of America.
