The Massapequa man who faked his own drowning last summer at Jones Beach is now back in jail after being arraigned Thursday on charges for posing as a police officer and attempting to order a women into his van.

The new charges against Raymond Roth, 48, include one count of kidnapping, one count of attempted burglary and one count of criminal impersonation. It is still unknown if they knew charges against Roth will affect the plea deal on Roth’s faked disappearance at Jones Beach from last summer.

Amanda Knox to be Retried

Amanda Knox will be retried for the murder of her abroad college roommate, Meredith Kercher.

The highest court in Italy, the Court of Cassation, overturned the acquittals of both Knox and her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, over the 2007 murder.

According to today.com, Knox stated, “It was painful to receive the news that the Italian Supreme Court decided to send my case back for revision when the prosecution’s theory of my involvement in Meredith’s murder has been repeatedly revealed to be completely unfounded and unfair.”

Earlier today, Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano and County Police Commissioner Thomas Dale announced that the department will be allocating additional police officers this weekend for an extensive driving while intoxicated enforcement initiative for St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

Mangano and Dale are advising all residents:

• If you plan to drink, choose a designated driver before going out.
• Take mass transit, a cab, or ask a sober friend to drive you home.
• Spend the night where the activity is being held.
• Always buckle up- it’s the best defense against a drunken driver.

Sugary Drink Ban Begins Tomorrow in NYC!

Starting tomorrow, non-diet sodas and other sugary drinks over 16 oz. will be illegal to serve in NYC. Customers may also find themselves having to make a lot more of their drinks than ever before.

The controversial ban on sugary soft drinks being sold in sizes over 16 oz., will be changing how a lot of NYC restaurants and eateries serve their drinks. Movie theaters  bowling alleys, sporting arenas and restaurants are all among the places that will be expected to make changed due to the new ban. 

This if the first ban of sugary drinks in the nation. If any company chooses not to abide by the new rules, they will be facing a $200 fine.

Congratulations to the GCHS Girls Basketball team for defeating Floral Park this past Saturday in a 40 to 36 victory and qualifying for the Long Island Championship!

The Long Island Championship game will be played this Saturday, March 9^th, at 3 p.m. at Adelphi University in Garden City. Tickets for the game are $6. The team will take on Harborfields High School!
