North Babylon man, Kristofer Busching, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault of Ryan McCarthy.  Busching was sentenced to 2 to 3 years in prison for hitting teenage McCarthy with his car, causing permanent brain damage, and then fleeing the scene to try to hide his involvement.

Busching received a lighter sentence than the Assistant District Attorney had hoped to achieve.  McCarthy has suffered brain injuries, making it difficult for him to focus and sleep.  The family also claims that the injury has cost them $500,00 in medical bills.

Busching hit the teen after making a U-turn in West Islip after believing McCarthy has yelled at him as he drove by.  Busching then tried to stage a crash in the woods, asking his friends to help him cover up what he had done.
