Battle Discrimination: Same Sex Spousal Benefits

A Connecticut woman has filed a discrimination complaint against Brookedale Senior Living in West Hartford CT, claiming she is being illegally denied health benefits for her wife.

Kerry Considine, a physical therapist from Griswold, states that the company does not offer benefits to the spouses of same-sex employees.  In response, Considine filed a sexual discrimination complaint with the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

In the state of Connecticut, gay marriage is legal, therefore discrimination in providing benefits based on sexual orientation is prohibited.  To read the full story, click here.
