The NHL (National Hockey League) commissioner Gary Bettman doesn’t think that Brooklyn will be a good fit for the new destination of the New York Islanders. The Islanders plan to leave the outdated Nassau Coliseum when their lease expires in 2015.

Bettman thinks it will be difficult for the team to be in Brooklyn because it will be hard to reach a fan base in Long Island and Queens. Nassau county voters rejected a $400 million referendum last year to build a new arena.

The NHL was hoping that the Islanders would relocate and explore their options in the metropolitan area, rather than move them to another state which seems to be an option currently.

The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) has made the decision to ban in weekend and late-night drinking on their trains. The LIRR is banning alcohol consumption on overnight weekend trains in and out of Penn Station.

The LIRR’s decision to ban alcohol on late-night trains is aimed to put a stop to the unruly behavior and activity by drunken passengers on these trains. This new rule will go into effect on May 14th and will be operating on Friday and Saturday nights between midnight and 5 a.m.

The LIRR will be posting signs throughout Penn Station notifying customers of the new rule. MTA police officers will be stationed throughout the LIRR platforms to inform passengers that they need to get rid of their drinks. Union officials plan to back the new rule as well.

The LIRR took action to enforce this new rule because officials were reporting a number of recent assaults on train crew members.
