The United States Women’s National Soccer team is off to a great start at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London! The Americans have already earned enough points to advance them to the next round! However, they still need to put forth their best effort against North Korea in tomorrow’s match!

If the Americans win their next match against North Korea, they will most likely avoid the Group F winner. North Korea won their first game in London against Columbia but fell short in their second match against France.

If you’re an American soccer fan, the name Alex Morgan probably sounds very familiar! The 21 year old player is key for the American squad. She is quick, creative, knows how to score a goal and is tough to stop! Another top playing on the squad is goalkeeper Hope Solo, who has been referred to as the world’s best keeper.

Are you a fan of Alex Morgan or Hope Solo? Will you tune into the squads next match in the Olympic Games? Let us know on our Facebook page, linked HERE

Rangers land Rick Nash!

Rick Nash known more for his finesse style of play, is now a member of the New York Rangers!

The New York Rangers were in pursuit of Nash for over 5 months and finally acquired him in a block buster trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets Monday afternoon.  The Rangers agreed to give up Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, Tim Erixon and their first-round draft pick next year to Columbus for just Nash, who owns very meaningful statistical record in Blue Jackets history.  “It is very exciting. It’ll be fun to come to training camp and see what [line] combinations [head coach John Tortorella] goes with,” Nash said during the half-hour long scrum at his stall. “I looked at the roster. It’s amazing. You can fit anyone in at any spot and it’d be fun to play with them.”

With Gaborik slated to miss the first month of the season as he recuperates from surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder, it seems that Nash will be centered by veteran Brad Richards.  Nash has played both left andright wing in his career so he should be flexible.  “I think it is a big, fast team with some of the wingers — guys like [Mike] Rupp and [Brian] Boyle — they can kind of do it all, play fast, and I think I fit into that,” Nash said. “This is a world class team and [Richards] is a top centerman on any team in the league. It’s exciting.”

Nash confirmed that when he spoke with Howson last February before the trade deadline, he was told that they were looking to rebuild the franchise.  Nash has spent his entire NHL career on the Blue Jackets and offered that Howson use him to acquire assets.  Howson was unable to procure the kind of return for Nash at the deadline that the executive was demanding.  “I was disappointed,” Nash said about not being moved at the deadline before growing philosophical about the business of hockey. “You look at huge deals and sometimes they get done in a day and sometimes it takes months. I think it was a pretty big trade for both organizations and it had to get done right. I respect that.”  “I always wanted to get it done but I wanted to get it done in the right way,” Nash said about the trade talks continuing into the off-season. “I wanted to play somewhere where I wanted to be and my No. 1 priority was to be here. I’m just happy it worked out and if I had to wait all summer to come here, then I would have.”

With the exception of Parise and Suter, going to Minnesota, this is one of the biggest and most talked about trades of the off season.  Nash has been one of the league’s best players for quite some time! It is exciting to see if he will fit in with the rest of the New York Rangers Players!

NCAA Ruling on Penn State- Was Justice Served?

The Penn State football programs fate was determined early Monday morning by the NCAA. The NCAA ruled that the last 14 years of Joe Paterno’s career victories be wiped away.

The program is also facing a tremendous amount of fines and penalties because of the actions of Coach Joe Paterno, who passed away in January. Penn State is also facing $60 million in unprecedented fines. As well as fines and penalties, the University will have to sit out in the post season for four years.

Any player who was planning to attend Penn State University in the fall and participate on the football team is free to transfer immediately and compete at another college or university.

The NCAA is holding Penn State University accountable for the “failure of those in power to protect children and insists that all areas of the university community are held to the same standards of honesty and integrity.”

What are your thoughts on what has happened over the past few months at Penn State University? Do you think the NCAA ruling is fair or unfair? Let us know what you think on our Facebook page, linked HERE!

Could Brooklyn be the New Home for the Islanders?

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530

The New York Islanders lease has only three years left at Nassau Coliseum. Because there are no plans surfacing for a new arena, the Islanders only option to continue to play in New York is to move to Brooklyn. In 2015, the Islanders may consider playing at the soon to open Barclays center.

Charles Wang, owner of the New York Islanders has reported that the team will not play anymore games in Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum after their lease is up in 2015. He feels that the arena is antiquated.  The Islanders are the only team out of eleven major league sports franchises in the New York and surrounding Metropolitan area that does not play in a new or recently renovated facility.

Gary Bettman, NHL commissioner has stated that there is still time for the Islanders to come up with a plan. Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano has also been trying to work out options for the Isles to stay in Nassau County. He is looking for a master developer that will be able to work with Charles Wang and negotiate a deal on a new arena for the Islanders.

When do you think a deal will be finalized for the Islanders? Do you think they would be a good fit for Brooklyn? Or do you think they belong in Nassau? Let us know your thoughts on our Facebook page linked HERE!

Yesterday, divers successfully raised the yacht that capsized and sank in Oyster Bay on the 4th of July after a fireworks show, and killed three children. The yacht was lifted from the bottom of the bay and brought to a local marina for further inspection. Detectives and divers are hoping that getting the yacht to the marina will provide them with further clues and insight into how the accident happened.

Detective Lt. John Azzata, leader of the investigation, said it is under much speculation whether the accident was caused by overcrowding or not. There were 10 children and 17 adults on board the yacht when the accident occurred. They will also investigate to see if there was a mechanical malfunction, weather conditions or any other factors that could’ve been involved in the accident.

As of now, no criminal charges have been filed on the operator of the yacht. Police handling the accident reported that the operator of the yacht did not appear to be intoxicated after the incident.

What are your feelings about this tragedy? How do you think the accident happened? Let us know your thoughts on our Facebook page linked HERE

Precincts Are Merging In Nassau County

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530
877-791-8076 / StoberLaw.com

This week, the merge between Nassau County’s sixth and third precincts is going into effect. The merging of the two precincts is part of an ongoing cost-cutting police reorganization program. The consolidation of the Nassau County precincts is part of the county’s plan to save around $20 million per year.

The new plan is to have ten officers assigned on weekdays and two officers on weekends and nights at the former Sixth Precinct. The precinct has also been transformed into a community policing center where individuals are able to pick up accident reports and file any complaints they may have. The Third Precinct is going to be responsible for processing arrests and patrol areas and communities where the sixth precinct formerly was responsible for.

What do you think about these changes? Let us know on our Facebook page linked HERE
