Family-Friendly Weekend Events on Long Island

It may not feel like spring today, but May is right around the corner.  Looking for something fun to do with your family this weekend?  There are plenty of fun events happening across Long Island.

Weekend Events:

Arbor Day Family Festival
Where: Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park
Cost: $20 Per Vehicle
When: Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm
Celebrate the trees in a weekend-long festival that celebrates Arbor Day!  

Tyrants and Tiaras: Pirate and Princess Day
Where: Long Island Aquarium
Cost: $26.50 for adults, $10.25 for children 12 and younger if dressed as a pirate or princess 
When: Saturday from 10am-3pm
Children 12 and younger will get 50% off admission to the aquarium when they come dressed in their favorite pirate or princess costume!  There will be photo opportunities, pistol duels, and whip and cannon demonstrations.  

All Kids Fair
Where: Melville Marriott
Cost: $5, free ages 2 and younger
When: Sunday from 10am-4:30 pm
Looking for a healthier weekend alternative?  This educational health and wellness fair will feature more than 80 different vendors!  Kids can have fun with free face painting, smoothies, and gluten free baked goods samples!

My Sinatra
This is a Sinatra tribute show starring Cary Hoffman.

St. Patrick's Day Parade

Restaurants on the North Fork and South Fork are offering three-course prix-fixe menus this weekend.

Monster Jam - 
Love motor sports?  Monster Jam is an event featuring racing and freestyle competitions by monster trucks.  The event will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend.  The cost for a ticket ranges from $15 to $80.  Visit the website for details:  http://goo.gl/4w2XEY

Hops & Props Craft Beer Festival -
The Cradle of Aviation museum is going to hold a craft beer festival amongst the planes of aviation history.  There will be a variety of craft beers available to sample.  The event will be Saturday, February 7th, from 7 to 10 pm.  For more information:  http://goo.gl/RcIGhn

"Messy Afternoons"
The Long Island Children's Museum in Garden City is holding "Messy Afternoons" workshops on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.  Preschoolers can put on plastic smocks (to stay clean) while kneading and stretching all types of goo.

Dancing At Puglia's
Puglia's in Garden City has a live band that plays nonstop.  There is no cover and they serve food while the band plays!  Check out the band Saturday, February 7th at 7pm.

Places to Visit Santa on Long Island

Santa will be making many appearances across Long Island this holiday season.  If you're looking for something festive to do, here are a few of the places you and your family can enjoy the day visiting Santa!  

Places to visit and take a photo with Santa:

Smith Haven Mall

Lake Grove
Santa will be visiting the mall to take photos with kids through December 24th. For specific times and costs, they recommend you visit their website or call 631-724-1433.


Westfield South Shore Mall
Bay Shore 
Santa will be taking photos with kids through December 24th from 10am to 9pm Monday through Saturday. He will be available from 11am to 6pm on Sundays.

Roosevelt Field Mall
Garden City
Kids can visit Santa through December 24th.  The hours vary, so they recommend checking their website for specific times.  

Walt Whitman Shops
Huntington Station
Children can bring their holiday wishlists to Santa daily through Christmas eve.  Since the hours vary, they recommend checking the website for details.

White Post Farms Animal Farm and Petting ZooMelville
This farm has a ton of fun activities for kids, including a visit from Santa every Saturday and Sunday through Christmas from 10am to 4pm.  Pictures with Santa are included with your $12 admission fee.

Bayville Adventure Park's Winter Wonderland
Bayville
Meet Santa by the beach!  This winter holiday park is open on Fridays from 6pm-10pm, Saturdays from 12pm-10pm and Sundays from 12pm-9pm.

Hicks Nursery
Westbury
Santa will be visiting Hicks Nursery from 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm until December 23rd.  There will be reindeer, a walk-through holiday story and a store with holiday villages.  Hicks Nursery also has a collection for nonperishable food items.

Street Fair at Eisenhower Park
Where:  Eisenhower Park, East Meadow
When:  Saturday, 10/11 and Sunday 10/12 from 10 AM - 5 PM
The Street Fair at Eisenhower Park is a great place to spend the day with your family.  The fair provides visitors with vendors and unique items over Columbus Day weekend.

Riverhead Country Fair
Where:  Peconic Riverfront, Riverhead
When:  Sunday, 10/12 from 10 AM - 5 PM
If you are heading out east this weekend, check out the Riverhead Country Fair.  There will be carnival rides, live music, and vendors for the whole family.

Long Island Philharmonic
This free event starts at 7PM at Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park.

Saturday
Long Island Blues Festival
This blues music festival is hosted by the Long Island Blues Relief Fund.  The fundraiser event is being held to benefit Long Islanders that are in disarray from Hurricane Sandy.  The festival is #35 and will be held from 1PM-10PM at Cow Meadow Park and Preserve.

Super Diamond Neil Diamond Tribute Concert
This free concert at Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower park pays tribute to the singer Neil Diamond.

Sunday
Rock and Roll Car Show
Featuring 50s and 60s cars, visitors can participate as a spectator for $5 or enter the show for $20 the day of the show.  

Long Island Potato Festival
Celebrate Long Island’s long standing history of potato farming at Peconic Bay Winery.  The event is $20 for adults and free for children.
