Tomorrow night, Hofstra University in Hempstead will behosting the Presidential Debate between current President Barack Obama and
Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Security will be tighter than ever before on
the Long Island campus.
Hofstra University hosted a debate in 2008. However,
officials point out security will be much tighter this year due to the
emergence of groups that didn't exist in 2008. Located at the debate site,
there will be detectives, patrolmen, emergency-services, special operations
officers and hazardous material experts.
In 2008, Nassau County spent about $612,000 on police
overtime for the debate between Barack Obama and John McCain. That number is
expected to be larger this year.
