In response to the horrific events that occurred earlier this week at the Boston Marathon, this year’s Long Island Marathon will include bomb-sniffing dogs, electric surveillance, and a greater police presence.

Nassau County officials met earlier this week to devise a plan to discuss the new security to ensure the safety of all of the people planning on being involved in the Long Island Marathon.

According to LongIsland.com, Marathon director Jason Lipset said that the increased security is especially necessary “for the runners, so they know they can feel secure.”

Thus far, there are 755 runners registered for the race, along with an hundreds expected as spectators.

Did You Know Your Prenup May Be Invalid?

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530

If you’re from the New York City area, you may have recently heard about a prenuptial agreement a Long Island women had signed with her millionaire husband before their 1998 wedding was thrown out of a Brooklyn court.

Many divorce lawyers took notice of this case and are left wondering, will anymore couples have prenuptial agreements tossed out in court?
Here are five reasons why your contract may be invalid. You might be able to get out of it if:
  • The agreement is fraudulent – The agreement could be thrown out if your spouse did not fully disclose their income or assets at the time of signing.
  • The agreement was coerced, signed under duress or without mental capacity – If you were ill or under the influence of drugs at the time of signing, you may have a shot at having the prenup thrown out.
  • Improperly filed paperwork – A poorly drafted agreement could be invalid.
  • Signed without legal representation – Independent parties are usually required and recommended. If you made the mistake of not having one when you signed, it may work in your favor!
  • It contains unreal provisions – If there are rules that sound ridiculous, such as; no child support to be paid, no weight gain, etc. it may be enough to invalidate the prenup.

Remember to consult with a professional whether you are thinking about signing a prenup or trying to get out of one. Check out the full article HERE.

Have you been involved in a transit accident?

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530
877-791-8076 / StoberLaw.com

Many Long Island residents rely heavily on the train, subway and bus systems (public transit) that serve more than 7 million people every day. Public transit vehicles are expected to meet a higher standard for safety than private motorist companies. They must take extra measures to avoid accidents and prevent injuries to passengers, employees, motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists.

Personal injury attorneys at our Nassau County firm represent transit employees, passengers, and others injured in accidents, helping them recover full and fair compensation for their losses. If you would like to speak with one of our lawyers about an injury claim, please contact our Garden City office and arrange a free consultation and case evaluation. Our attorneys will evaluate and examine evidence, witness statements, and transit authority reports regarding the train or bus accident to classify factors that caused the injury.

Our attorneys will consider the following
  • Driver negligence, speeding, illegal log book, maintaining false driving records, drunk driving
  • Transit company negligence in training and supervision of employees
  • Failure of the transit company to maintain tracks and equipment in a safe manner
  • Failure to adhere to municipal, state, and federal safety regulations designed to protect passengers, operators, and track workers
  • Failure to note and repair known hazards and failure to set up warning lanterns

If you or someone you know has been involved in a transit accident, please contact the Law Offices of Louis D. Stober, Jr., L.L.C. today.
