LIRR service has been
restored following an accident earlier this afternoon. A westbound diesel train struck a car at the
crossing in Huntington Station Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the suspension
of LIRR service between Port Jefferson and Huntington.
Suffolk County police
reported that the accident occurred at 12:26 pm. The crossing that the accident occurred at is
the first crossing east of Huntington Station.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Metropolitan
