Police Warn Residents of Phone Scam

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530
877-791-8076 / StoberLaw.com

Police warn Long Islanders to be on the lookout for any suspicious phone calls. Scammers are calling innocent people warning them that if they did not make on the phone payments via Green Dot cards and Western Union they can be seriously penalized. (Garden City Patch)

Nassau County Police Department tells Garden City Patch scammers are claiming to be from companies saying the individual called has not paid utility bills or taxes. The scammers even go on to say the individuals can be arrested, suspended of services, and even face foreclosure on property if they do not pay.

In some cases, scammers claim to be law enforcement, or tell the individual they failed to appear for jury duty, or even say a family member is being held hostage and the kidnappers want a money reward.

Nassau Police Department and Garden City Patch urge you to call 911 if you think this happened to you. If you or anyone else has any information about the scammers please call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS (8477)

  1. The news on scammers posing as law enforcement officers does not surprise me at all. Read about it at http://www.callercenter.com several times. One complaint was about a fake payday loan call where the scammer identified himself as a police officer calling to collect a debt for a client. The other call was about a fake DEA agent, accusing the victim of buying illegal drugs online. Lol! Very obvious schemes.
