This week,
the merge between Nassau County’s sixth and third precincts is going into
effect. The merging of the two precincts is part of an ongoing cost-cutting police reorganization program. The consolidation of the Nassau County precincts
is part of the county’s plan to save around $20 million per year.
The new plan
is to have ten officers assigned on weekdays and two officers on weekends and
nights at the former Sixth Precinct. The precinct has also been transformed
into a community policing center where individuals are able to pick up accident
reports and file any complaints they may have. The Third Precinct is going to
be responsible for processing arrests and patrol areas and communities where
the sixth precinct formerly was responsible for.
