This past Monday, a plan has been set for the upcoming
renovation of Nassau Coliseum. Nassau
County Legislature has approved for a budge of $229 million. County Executive
Ed Mangano has led the way for this event. (Mineola
Patch)
The unanimous vote plans for Forest City Ratner to
reconstruct the coliseum starting in August 2015. The renovations include seating for 13,000.
That is 3,000 less than the capacity of the coliseum now. This plan will
hopefully bring in more minor league sports teams.
The President of the Long Island Federation of Labor, John
Durso, tells the Mineola Patch that
the renovation project will create over 1,000 labor union jobs. The ideal goal
is to produce a couple thousand hours of labor in order to boost Nassau’s
economy.
As for the New York Islanders, their lease will end some
short time before the renovation begins. The Islanders will then move to their
new home at the Barclays Center.
