Columbus OH resident Matthew Cordle (22) created a YouTube video
confessing to driving under the influence. His actions led to killing
61-year-old Vincent Canzani on June 22nd, 2013.
According to USA Today,
after a night of “drinking really heavily” Cordle decided to drive home in his
truck. During his route home Cordle veered off into the opposite lane of
Interstate 670 where he struck Canzani’s Jeep killing Canzani instantly.
In the heartbreaking YouTube video, Cordle confesses saying
he takes “full responsibility” for his poor decisions and hopes to bring peace
to the Canzani family. Cordle also mentions how his struggle with depression
and drinking led him down a dark path.
At the end of the video, Cordle pleads to viewers in memory
of Canzani to not drink and drive. He “begs” to save each other by not following
in his footsteps.
Franklin County prosecutor Ron O’Brien made a CD copy of
Cordle’s video to use as evidence in the case against Cordle. USA Today states Cordle was a suspect in
the crash. Cordle could be charged with aggravated vehicular homicide with
alcohol specification. With this charge Cordle could face up to eight years in
prison.
