A newly proposed Long Island law would protect Good Samaritans from being sued after breaking into a vehicle to rescue a child under 8 years old.

There has been a rise in the number of cases of children left in cars.  According to Safe Kids New York, there have been over 750 deaths associated with hypothermia and heat stroke since 1991.  In the last three years, the number of child deaths has spike even further.  Sen. Martins is sponsoring the proposed law to protect those who help children from being sued for any damage done to the car.

Dr. Jose Prince advises people who see children in distress to move them to a shaded area where they can safely cool off.  Read more about the proposed law on cbs.com.
