Sections of almost all of Long Island’s major roadways were closed
during this morning’s commute. Due to the severe flooding, Gov. Andrew Cuomo
dispatched both emergency equipment and personnel.
Nearly every major roadway in Suffolk and Nassau County experienced a
full or partial closure due to flooding, according to the Department of
Transportation. In many cases, all lanes
were closed for several hours. This
caused traffic to back up for miles.
According to the National Weather Service, 13.27 inches of rain were
recorded at Islip’s Long Island MacArthur Airport between midnight Tuesday and
10:30 am this morning. Motorists should be
careful when driving today. Flooding has
made commuting difficult across the island.
