Today, the Buckle up New York campaign will be in full
effect. State and county police will be partnering with law enforcement
agencies across the country to crack down on drivers who aren't buckling
themselves up as well as those who aren't properly restraining young children
and other passengers.
Suffolk County police have reported they well be setting up
various checkpoints to check for seat-belts through June 2nd.
According to Newsday.com, state law requires all front-seat
occupants age 8 or older to be buckled in. The same goes for backseat riders,
ages 8 through 15. Any child who is under the age of 4 is to be properly
restrained in a safety seat. Any child between the ages of 4 and 7 should be
restrained in an appropriate child-restraint system, which does not include a
regular seat belt.
