Garden City School District is among 39 schools that will
split an $18 million settlement after being over charged by food suppliers.
This settlement was reached with Compass Group USA, a food management service
provider that improperly over charged 39 schools in the NY state area.
Compass received
discounts from food vendors it worked with but did not pass on those savings
they received to the NY schools, which is required by law. In addition to this settlement the
corporation will institute a nutritional code of conduct that will result in
better quality food for NY school children.
This matter touched the students, parents and taxpayers
because money was over spent on food supply for the school district and now
they will be getting their money back where it was over charged. The
investigation leading to this settlement was conducted by the Taxpayer
Protection Bureau.
The funds from the Attorney Generals settlement will be
distributed to impacted school districts and educational entities across the
state.
