The new Barclays Center in Brooklyn maybe more of a
competition for MSG then they originally thought. Everyone knows the Garden to be the top
entertainment vendor in NYC but no one thought that the Barclays Center would
have this big of an impact before it even opened. With the Garden going under remodeling the
past two years and the Barclays Center opening in October there have been
numerous talks about how the Barclays will do.
The Barclays Center
is not only going to be hosting the New Jersey Nets, now the Brooklyn Nets, but
will also be the home of Jay-Z, where he is performing 8 nights to open up the
Arena. This new arena holds 18,000 people and is significantly smaller than the
Garden but already has artist talking about the possibility of playing there.
Most entertainers have been held tight to the Garden because that has been the
only vendor in NYC but now with the Barclays being a smaller arena with a new
look, agents and performers are hopeful this could be a good thing for the
entertainment business.
There is a high demand for artist to perform in the Garden
and it is where the artist makes their career, if you play at the Garden you
know your career is excelling. Now
having the Barclays center it is not only a threat for entertainment and concerts
but also for basketball. The Garden also is the home of the NY Knicks and now
with the Nets coming closer to NYC this could bring the rivalry a lot stronger.
The Barclays Center will be causing people all over New York
and New Jersey to have options of what they want to do, where they want to go
for a basketball game, concert etc. The
Barclays center will enjoy their grand opening and first year of the new arena
and then has time goes on between the Barclays and the Garden they will start
to see what develops and what industries will go where.
