What Should You Do With Your Speeding Ticket?

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530

While many people think that they can put it off, failing to address a traffic ticket can lead to points on your driver's licence, increased insurance premiums and large fines.  Speeding tickets are one of the main reasons that New Yorkers lose their driver's licenses.

Our traffic violation lawyers know what needs to be done to protect your right to drive.

When to Go to Traffic Court:

  • You Can Prove You're Innocent -  If you have evidence that shows that you were not speeding, it's worth going to traffic court to present the information to the judge.
  • You're Innocent and Have Spare Time - Many cases are dismissed because the police officer decides to skip their court date.  If you can attend court without significantly disrupting your routine, there is a chance it can work in your favor.
  • There are Dire Consequences - If you are in danger of losing your license or you are facing a severe penalty, it's important to have the case seen before a judge. Our attorneys can help you prepare for the case.
If you recently received a traffic ticket, contact our office.  We know you are busy and we respect your time.   Our attorneys will explain your ticket and show you all of the options available to you.  If possible, we will handle your case without you ever having to make a court appearance.

Our experience, combined with our successful track record makes us Long Island’s premier law firm.  Contact our office by calling 877-791-8076.  You can also like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for the latest news stories and legal tips.

New Law Protects Carmans River from Sewage Waste

The Town of Brookhaven recently passed a new law designed to protect the Carmans River from pollution.  The amendment to the town code was unanimously approved by the town board last week.  This makes Brookhaven the first town on Long Island to have waste-water treatment standards this stringent.

The new requirements will help reduce the concentration of nitrogen in surface and groundwater.  Brookhaven's new standards will be 3 parts-per-million per liter.  This is more stringent than the 10 parts-per-million level currently allowed by the United States Health Department.

The Executive Director of the Pine Barrens Society explained that while these new restrictions won't clear the river of it's pollutants immediately, it's a good start.  Since Long Island depends on it's groundwater, these watershed specific standards will help lower nitrogen and keep the water free of pollutants.

Read more about the new restrictions in the Long Island Press.

Groundhog Day: Driving Safety Tips to Get You Through Six More Weeks of Winter

350 Old Country Road, Suite 205, Garden City, NY 11530
877-791-8076 / StoberLaw.com

It looks like it's going to be a long winter.

Long Island groundhogs saw their shadow today - this means six more weeks of winter.  As today's wintery mix is leaving many of Long Island's major roads a mess, we remind everyone to drive carefully.

The Department of Transportation has reduced the speed limit to 45 MPH on the Long Island Expressway, Northern and Southern State Parkways, the Sagitkos, Sunken Meadow, Wantagh and Meadowbrook Parkways, and State Route 135.

Use these tips from AAA to be extra cautious on the roads not just today, but all winter long.

Winter Driving Safety Tips:

  • Drive Slowly - It may seem obvious, but driving slow in snow and ice is extremely important.  When driving on days like today, it's important to leave about 8 to 10 seconds of follow distance.
  • Avoid Stopping Try to slow down enough to keep rolling as a traffic light changes.  It can be harder to gain speed on snow and ice.  Try to move from a slow speed, rather than a full stop.  This is where driving slowly can come into play!
  • Don't Accelerate on Hills - Applying more gas when driving up a hill can cause your wheels to spin and fail to grip the road.  Try to gain speed before you reach the hill so that you have more control.
  • Check the Weather - Always check the weather before you leave the house.  Remember to drive safely today and be aware of the reduced speed limit on the roads.  Try to stay home, but if you have to drive home on your commute from work, be sure to drive safely and carefully.
  • Keep Emergency Supplies - Have emergency supplies on hand.  Blankets, hats, gloves, food and water should be in your vehicle in the unfortunate event you do become stuck.  This will help you stay protected until you can reach a towing company or a friend or family member.
Check out this article from longisland.com for more tips on how to drive safely this winter.  In the unfortunate event you do experience an auto accident this winter and you are in need of legal assistance, we are here to help.
