Garden City will once again host its 16^th annual celebration of the third and final leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown, The Belmont Stakes.  This festival will be held the day before the race June 7^th from 6-10 p.m.  In celebration of the 145^th running of the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park, the Garden City Festival will bring an evening of family activities, live music and entertainment to Seventh Street.  

This year’s festivities will be sponsored by the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) and Stifel Nicolaus Investment Services.  Performances will include the Fivestone Rock Band, Jerry and the Newcomers, New Vintage Orchestra, Nor’easter and the Village Music Makers, along with a performance by the Dancers from Broadway Bound Dance Center.  A wide variety of food and drinks will be available throughout the celebration accompanied by a festival favorite Wing-Off Competition.  This competition offers local restaurants to compete to be named Garden City’s chicken wing champion.  Patrons can participate in the taste testing and judging with a donation of $5, all proceed will donated to benefit local Hurricane Sandy relief efforts by the American Red Cross.  

The festival also offers many activities for children such as a poster contest, face painting, pony rides, and carnival games with prizes.

The festival will be held on Friday, June 7^th from 6pm – 10pm, the night before the 145^th running of the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park.

Garden City Belmont Festival Is Quickly Approaching!

The Belmont Stakes is quickly approaching! The third leg of the Triple Crown races will take place this Saturday, June 9^th at Belmont Park in Long Island. On Friday night, June 8^th, the Garden City Belmont Festival will take place!

Over the years, the event has evolved from just a simple parade into a huge event for family and friends everywhere. The event is held on the eve of the Belmont Stakes, and is sure to be a huge success! The largest sponsors for the event continue to be both The Garden City Hotel and NYRA (New York Racing Association). The event attracts about eight thousand people and has evolved with more carnival games and live music!

This year, the event will begin on Friday, June 8^th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Seventh Street in Garden City. Bands scheduled to perform include the Fivestone, Jerry & the Newcomers, the New Vintage Orchestra, Speak Easy and the Village Music Makers. Fans of tripping the light fantastic will be regaled by Garden City’s Broadway Bound Dance Center and Step Dancers from the Fitzpatrick Academy of Irish Dancers. There will also be a competition of Garden City Restaurants battling for the title of Chicken Wing Champion. The restaurants competing are Rein in the Garden City Hotel, Walk Street, J.P. McGeevers, Lani’s Marketplace, Pop’s Wings, Famous Dave’s and Murphy’s Bar and Grill!
