The latest scandal in sports involves the young tight end of
the New England Patriots, Aaron Hernandez.
Hernandez has been a suspect in the killing of Odin Lloyd. Lloyd, a 27 year old semi-pro football player
with the Boston Bandits, had known Hernandez for about a year and was dating
the sister of Hernandez’s fiance. What
seemed at first just to be speculations is now becoming more concrete as
evidence has been revealed. The case
against Hernandez is strengthening and he could face life in prison.
On June 17th, 2013 Lloyd was shot and
killed. At 3:07 a.m. he had texted his
sister “did you see who I was with?” She replied “Who?” to which he answered
“NFL,” then added “just so you know.” A few minutes later Lloyd was killed in
what prosecutors are describing as an execution style shooting. The shooting
was reportedly “orchestrated” by Hernandez.
Two days later, he was arrested and led from his home in handcuffs. Two hours later, the New England Patriots dropped him from the team. The judge ordered that Hernandez be held
without bail on the murder charge as well as five weapons counts.
