Intellectual Property Theft Costs the U.S. Millions!

According to a report by the Congressional Joint Economic Committee, IP infringement harms companies through:
  • Lost revenue
  • The cost of IP protection
  • Damage to brand
  • Decreased incentives to innovate due to potential theft

Piracy and counterfeiting are helping to slow our country’s economic growth! Computer based piracy is a major factor in piracy in general, because software, music, and movies are so readily available to download for free with some quick searching.

For physical goods, the report shows that while small businesses represent 79 percent of all U.S. businesses, only 10.5 have actually issued Intellectual Property complaints.  This is because small businesses often lack the budget and resources to defend themselves in a case and time. On average, one-third of all IP cases took over a year to resolve.

Read more of HG.org’s article here. What are your thoughts on IP infringement? Is it something the United States can adequately stop if most of the counterfeit merchandise is coming from out of the country? Let us know on our Facebook page!

Mets Give Rivera First Loss With Duda's Walk Off Single!

It looked as if the Yankees were going to deal the undefeated Matt Harvey his first loss of the season. In the 6th inning, Lyle Overbay produced an RBI single that gave the Yankees their only run, which seemed like it would have been enough to give the Bronx Bombers the win; especially since they carried that 1-0 lead into the bottom of the 9th inning with who else, but the perfect 18 for 18 (in save opportunities), Mariano Rivera.

Luckily for the Mets, they had their hottest hitters coming up to face the extraordinary closer. Daniel Murphy was up first and hit the ball into shallow left field, which bounced into the stands for a ground rule double. The always clutch, David Wright followed with an RBI single through short that almost hit Murphy. Wright made it to 2nd after the throw got away from Catcher, Chris Stewart’s glove. The game was tied and the Mets dealt Rivera his first blown save of his last season.

With Lucas Duda up with no outs and Wright on 2nd, it looked like the Mets were going to steal this game with a walk-off. Lucas Duda did not disappoint. On a 1-1 count, Duda blooped a single over second base, for the walk off, 2-1 win. The win gave Rivera his first loss of the season and completed the Citi Field sweep of the Yankees, by the Mets.

The remaining 2 Subway Series games will be played tonight and tomorrow at Yankee Stadium, a change since previous years which had previously seen the crosstown rivals play 2 separate 3 game series.

First pitch is at 7:05.
