Last weekend, Garden City High School Varsity Fencers Caitlin Gallant and Louis Stober (son of Louis D. Stober) competed in the USA 2013 Junior Olympics Tournament!

Both fencers qualified to participate in the event in Baltimore, Maryland, where fencers gathered from 48 states! 

Congratulations to both on an amazing accomplishment!

Only 9 days ago, on February 14^th, Oscar Pistorius was arrested in the shooting and death of his model girlfriend. Today, he has been released on bail.

Only a few short days ago, the Olympic amputee was charged with one count of premeditated murder of Reeva Steenkamp in their South Africa home. Pistorius said he “accidentally shot her, thinking she was an intruder”.

His bail was set at 1,000,000 along with orders to stay home from his home, prohibited from drinking alcohol, must return his passport and firearms and report to the police station twice a week.

Driver That Killed Nassau County Police Officer Will Not Go to Jail

John Kaley, 27, the Connecticut driver who fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his truck into Nassau County Police Officer Michael Califano on the LIE, pleaded guilty today to a lesser charge of reckless driving and will not go to jail.

The judge in the case granted an order to dismiss the charge of criminally negligent homicide against Kaley who struck Officer Califano in February of 2011.

Winter storm Nemo is headed our way! According to newsday.com, a blizzard warning is in effect for all of Long Island and New York City, starting Friday and continuing on into Saturday afternoon. The estimated snowfall has increased to 20 inches and possibly more in certain locations.

New York State officials are urging that commuters aim to get home before the normal rush hour to ensure safety. The Long Island Rail Road will be adding 8 additional East bound this afternoon to ensure all LIRR customers get home safely.

Tonight, the New York Islanders (4-4-1) will take on one of their biggest rivals, the New York Rangers (4-5-0) at Madison Square Garden.

Coming off a tough loss against the New Jersey Devils, the New York Rangers are sure to come out strong and on the quest for a win. NY Rangers coach John Tortorella will be making some changes to tonight’s lineup after their 3-1 loss to the Devils.
